Labrador Heritage Society: Strengthening Culture and Community

Ontario Akwesasne, January 16, 2026

The Labrador Heritage Society continues to be a vital space where culture, connection, and healing come together. With support from the National Sixties Scoop Healing Foundation of Canada, the Society has expanded its programming to support Survivors, families, and youth through culturally grounded initiatives.

Rooted in Indigenous values, the Society offers cultural workshops, healing circles, and community gatherings that foster reconnection to heritage and strengthen community bonds. Participants engage in traditional arts, storytelling, and shared learning, creating meaningful opportunities for reflection, identity-building, and intergenerational connection.

Healing circles, guided by Elders and facilitators, provide safe spaces for sharing and support, helping individuals process their experiences in community. Seasonal feasts and cultural events further strengthen relationships and celebrate Indigenous traditions.

Participants often speak of renewed pride, belonging, and connection to their roots. These programs not only support personal healing but also nurture collective strength.

The National Sixties Scoop Healing Foundation of Canada is honoured to support the Labrador Heritage Society as it continues its important work - building community, uplifting culture, and supporting healing for generations to come.
