Indigenous Health Centre of Tiohtià:ke (IHCT): Tetewá:neren – We Are All Connected

Ontario Akwesasne, March 12, 2026

The Indigenous Health Centre of Tiohtià:ke (IHCT) provides culturally grounded, holistic health services to Indigenous people in Montreal. Guided by Indigenous leadership and community input, IHCT integrates Western clinical care with traditional healing to address the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of wellness.

Indigenous communities continue to face disproportionate rates of chronic illness andmental health challenges—realities deeply connected to the intergenerational impacts of the Sixties Scoop, Residential Schools, and forced displacement. Many Survivors describe a profound sense of disconnection from identity andculture prior to reclaiming traditional practices.

Through the Tetewá:neren – We Are All Connected program, funded by the National Sixties Scoop Healing Foundation of Canada, IHCT centers cultural reclamation and community reconnection as pathways tohealing.

Building on a successful pilot phase, IHCT continues to offer:

Weekly drumming circles, led byan Indigenous Elder and supported by a grief specialist, creating space for Survivors to process loss and strengthen cultural ties.

Trauma-informed massage therapy, identified by participants as an effective tool for releasing stored trauma andsupporting nervous system regulation

Ceremonies and land-based healing activities, including sweat lodge, moon and pipe ceremonies, medicine walks, and Elder-ledteachings.

Men’s healing circles, creative storytelling workshops, community feasts, and educational sessions focusedon colonization, identity, and resilience.

These cultural supports are integrated within IHCT’s broader health services, which include urgent care clinics, specialist visits, Traditional Healer sessions, addictions counselling, and psychological services. Smudging and access tosacred medicines remain central to the care environment.

By grounding healthcare in culture, IHCT strengthens identity, restores connection, and supports Sixties Scoop Survivors and their families on their journey toward holistic wellness affirming that healing happens in relationship, and that we are all connected.
