Anish Healing Centre: Supporting Sixties Scoop Survivors Through Community Healing
Ontario Akwesasne, January 27, 2026
Anish Healing Centre Inc., in partnership with Akiing Oniji Foundation Inc., continues to provide culturally grounded support through its Sixties Scoop Survivors Program, funded in 2024 by the National Sixties Scoop Healing Foundation of Canada. The Anish Healing Centre and Akiing Onji Foundation Inc. are dedicated to providing holistic, culturally grounded support to Indigenous peoples, including Sixties Scoop Survivors, their families, and Descendants. Through traditional healing practices, community gatherings, and advocacy, these organizations help Survivors reconnect with their roots, process intergenerational trauma, and reclaim their cultural identity.
This program was created to offer a safe, supportive space for Sixties Scoop Survivors to reconnect with culture, community, and their identities. Grounded in Indigenous teachings and healing practices, the program focuses on restoring balance, strengthening self-worth, and addressing intergenerational trauma through holistic approaches.
Through sharing circles, cultural teachings, land-based activities, and peer support, participants can connect with others who share similar lived experiences. These gatherings foster understanding, validation, and belonging—essential components in the healing journey.
The partnership between Anish Healing Centre and Akiing Oniji Foundation reflects a strong commitment to Survivor-led and community-informed programming. Together, they ensure services are culturally safe, trauma-informed, and guided by Indigenous values and knowledge.

Funding received in 2024 allowed the program to expand its reach, enhance programming, and provide consistent support to Survivors who have often faced barriers to accessing culturally relevant healing services.
The National Sixties Scoop Healing Foundation of Canada is honoured to support this important work and recognizes Anish Healing Centre and Akiing Oniji Foundation for their dedication to uplifting Survivors, strengthening communities, and fostering pathways to healing for future generations.
